Make it yourself if you are so inclined I have seen online the measurements and tools necessary to do it.

The pine boards that I bought from Chevy Duty (drilled and grooved) were excellent. Bruce Horkey has an excellent reputation.
51Jimmy's finish sounds like what I did - several coats of ebony stain and then several coats of thinned marine spar varnish (satin finish was my prefererence). The boards needed to be sanded before finishing - they still had minor planing marks.

I used oak on my truck, but they have pine and the kits are the best. Mine practicaly put itself in. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | You may want to use a cabinet scraper instead of a sander for bed wood to remove the tool marks. The reason being that the scraper cuts the grain but the sandpaper kind of frays it. The stain will take much better, especially in the case of oak which has a more open pore structure (which should be filled before staining). The wood will also be slightly more resistant to rot and dings.
A cabinet scraper basically a flat piece of spring steel with an edge that has a burr burnished onto it. You can get wood to a finish flat surface in just a few strokes.

I found the demensions online. I didn't want the holes for the bolts in the planks so that was a reason why I went that way. I got finished hardwood for the same price as pine if I had fo ordered from a dealer. You'd be suprised what you can find if you ask around. The carpenter told me it took him about an hour or so to set up and after that making the boards was quite straight forward. | | |
