From time to time I see the question or comment referring to the ugly sheet metal someone added under the jump seat. The fact is,it's original sheet metal in my picture.I cut the spot welds and removed it to repair a hole in the floor pan under it.I don't think Ive ever seen anyone post a picture of the under side. The panel is spot welded to the floor and slips under the seat riser where three bolts hold it.

As you can see in the last picture, there are three weld nuts attached to the sheet metal.

Just wanted to share it with all you 1947.2 to 1955.1 suburban folks.

My body man had a fit after we made and installed the new floor, then covered it up with that flat sheet metal. I finally won him over , we are both in counseling now !

That recessed floor under the flat sheet metal on the Suburban is what would be in the panel truck. It was part of a storage cavity under the seat platform. GM obviously didn't want to stamp out a floor for the Suburban and another floor for the panel.
The seat mount platform on the panel truck extends to the door, whereas on the Suburban it stops at the location of the jump seat.
That's why that thick gauge flat sheet metal is spot welded and bolted under the jump seat.
