Frozen brake cables can cause dragging brakes. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Not sure what your working on Jimbo24 but some penetrating oil may help. Hang it up and the penetrating oil run down it. Then us a pair of vice grips to hold the end and yank on it a few times. New ones are available and not very expensive. Just depends on how bad they are stuck! | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | If you have it off, bending the cable in a curve and then rotating it will sometimes break the rust bond. This would be with the penetrating oil already applied. | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 363 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 363 | thanks guys. new ones r not cheap. these r for 1ton cables r 63 inches long. yes they r off the truck. holding up because i can't get shoes on properly with ebrake strut and lever. cable has to move | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 363 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 363 | also anyone know where i can get huck brake ancor pin clip for chevy 1ton | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I have a plastic plumbing pipe with a cap on one end. Fill it full of solvent & let the cable soak overnight. Naturally its better to get new ones when available but some models aren't. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. The description usually leaves me wondering which size they actually are showing so sometimes it has to be ordered to see. Someone might know of other sources. | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 363 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 363 | i called chevyparts and it looked like the right one but lady said they r for three quater only. i can't do brakes without them. i hope someone can help | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | If you are talking about the clips, I believe there are two sizes used. Are the old ones destroyed? The 3/4 ones may work. Some people use E clips but I don't they are strong enough. Inline tube can make up your cables, I believe. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | Call Classic Tube https://chevytruck.inlinetube.com/chevy-truck.htmlThey sell 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton parking brake cables. They will try to match other length cables, if you can send them original.
