The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Panels 'N Burbs Rear Fender Interchange Question

I am looking at a project Suburban, 1950 GMC. The rear fenders are munched up (dented) pretty bad. Are these bolt in replacement from any catalog or unique to the Suburbans?

Also, the Suburban has no drivetrain but there is a craigs lister locally selling a 1948 complete GMC drivetrain. I believe it would work (the 1948) in the 1950, but thought I would ask.

the drivetrain won't be a problem, but the fenders aren't repro'd so you'll need to repair what you've got or find [scarce] replacement originals

I believe alvin can answer any questions regarding the fiberglass rear fenders,I'm sure he'll be here shortly giving advice.

I have reproduction fiberglass rear fenders on my 53 panel. They took a bit of tweaking to get them nice enough, quite happy though. If your fenders are dented rather than rusted, I would consider trying to bang them out, maybe they are too far gone.

First off fiberglass fenders may need to be heated a little with a hair dryer, or similar, to get them to fit good. It all depends on how they were stored when "green".

While I have heard a bad tale or two concerning R&R Fiberglass out of Tennessee I've used Richards fenders and running boards on several vehicles and have not had any problems. I also have some on my 37 that have been on it for 15 years and never no cracks or "stars" in them. I didn't even use the fender braces (didn't want to drill holes in fenders) and they are holding up fine. R&R laps their fiberglass, not sprayed. He has been in business for many years so I do recommend giving them a call. Tell him your a Stovebolter and don't be afraid to ask for a discount or help on shipping.
Oh, and my running boards are holding up fine.

I saw leos panel truck at a show here a couple years ago,I couldn't tell they were fiberglass until he told me. They look really nice,here are a couple of pictures of them.

Thank you for the feedback that would take me forever to get in any other forum. Well, I am going to post the CL ad, which is out of Montana. Which may lead to the Burb getting sold, but I wanted to show the bad rear fender, which is beyond my skill set!

That fender looks salvageable to me. I'd try it in a second. Go for it and don't let it get away. If it were in Va it wouldn't still be on Craigslist.Larry

A good body man can make those look really nice,along with the dents in the clam shell door. Don't see rust through on the body,how does the floor pans look ?

He states in the add he has a title but no motor. Some states the engine number is the vin number on the title. How will that effect making it legal ?
