Here's one for guys who have experience with replacing a pinion or the Patricks 3.55 conversion:
How much play is acceptable between the pinion splined shaft and the driveshaft?
The manual shows using a big old puller for removing and replacing the pinion shaft. So must the splines themselves always be a tight fit? Or will the pin hold the whole setup together?
Mine had a broken pin, and the splines are a loose fit.

It would probably be better to acquire a tighter-fitting sleeve if possible. Every time you shift, or change throttle position the spline will work itself back and forth and wear the sleeve a little more. Eventually you'll get a click noise from the slack.

Thanks, yes, that's what I was worried about. The various instructions dont mention how snug the spline fit itself has to be vs. how much tightness/stress is taken by the pin.
Has anyone pinned a loose fitting spline to get it tight enough?
