I have some numbers off of an engine, I am wanting to know if I have deciphered them correctly.
block casting code 3764476 58-62 235
block date Con 4 B39 Feb. 3 1959
engine serial # F 204 J Flint Feb. 4 truck engine
head 3836848
Is this a 1959 235 which should be a full pressure engine.
Any other help with what I have would be appreciated. I'm wanting to put this in a 1953 truck.
Thanks, Mel

You are correct.

F 2 04 J
F = Flint, MI
2 = Feb
04 = 4th
J = 3100

It is a 1959 235, and it would be a high-pressure engine.

Use your 1953 clutch housing and the starter that matches the voltage of your electrical system. Use the flywheel/clutch-assembly that matches the starter.

Thanks for the confirmation...I'm sure there will be many more questions. It is actually a complete engine & transmission, so I should be good to go. Checking into it, probably going to do a rebuild...any comments/suggestions? What would be an approximate cost to do a rebuild?

I had a full pressure 235 completely redone, hot tanked, new cam/bearings lifters, valves, seats, timing gears, oil pump, pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, and all of the machine work for $2300 parts and labor. I assembled the engine myself. I had a few issues and the machine shop was very helpful in solving them. Pick your machine shop carefully. Just remember that a busy shop is busy for a reason. They very likely take care of their customers, and get a lot of good word of mouth, and return business.
