Does anyone know where to send my tumbler from my door handle I want to have it keyed to match my ignition switch

Call the locksmiths in your area. Most likely you can find one that has the tumblers for older vehicles and he can match your lock to your ignition. Bring the assemblies to his shop. I did the same about a year ago and he only charged me $20. I don't know the vintage of your project, but my locksmith seemed to enjoy working on old stuff and even encouraged me to hang around and watch.

There is no such locksmith in my area, and the locksmith next door to my parents in VA could not help.

An name/address/phone number of a locksmith who does this might be quite helpful.

Come on man, you have enough old junk lying around so I know you are up to yet another parts acquisition quest. I feel certain that there has to be someone around locally as my area is certainly not a thriving hub of automobile restoration craftsman. It will just take some more hunting. Admittedly, it seems like locksmithing is a declining industry.

crash2012, shop around some. Do you know folks at a couple garage's?? If so ask who does it. If you have the lock out take it with you as the "code" may be on it. A couple weeks ago I took a trunk lock to the lock smith and using the code, pulled a key off his wall board and it worked....cut me a duplicate and charged me 12 bucks. They are out their. You may also ask around at a cruise-in. Someone does it!!

Rekey an old lock is a simple task. Making an old lock take a different key is a completely different animal. The tumbler is the issue. Chevy and GMC used different keys for ignition and door lock. If I remember correctly, and that is a big if, The door lock key has a different offset at the long groove. The one that goes along the key. You could get 2 door locks and use 2 left side buttons to key both doors. But I am not sure that you can use a single key for both door and ignition. A good locksmith may be able to reset the pins in the tumbler, and match an existing key. That would give you 2 door locks and 1 key, for the doors. Getting that key to work the ignition? I don't know.

GM autos used a different key for door and ignition. Trucks did not. However the only difference in the keys was the part you hold. They are B10 and B11. Trucks used a B10 for all locks.

It is best to re-pin the ignition cylinder to match the door lock since the door lock cylinder usually has the code stamped on it and the ignition cylinder usually doesn't.

Check with someone in the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. They will probably know a member who can work on locks and keys.

The vendors sell matching ignition and door lock sets with one key for both.

Got it matched for $15 at local locksmith. I was wondering if anyone knows can you get the chrome tip/door anywhere ?
