I planted 7 acres of Mycogen corn in the spring. My neighbor will be combining for me and I will be using my 4400 to haul it to the elevator 6 miles away. This summer I have overhauled the brakes( shoes relined, cylinders honed and rebuilt, some tubing replaced, and new hoses) cleaned up and painted original bed wood the original red and white colors, replaced the wiring (still a stock 6 volt like its brothers) and put on new tires, tubes, and flaps.

I rebuilt the seat a few years ago. Harsh hoist is working well. It is one of the first hoists they produced back in late 48, installed in my truck in mid 49 when it was bought.

The ash tray is stuffed full of grain receipts from previous owner. There are numerous 18K lbs and 20K lbs receipts. I took the extensions off to try and reduce the chance of overloading.

I will try to post pics afterwards.

Mine used to be a grain hauler. Check out the first pic on my gallery page (link below). I still have the side boards. We could be back hauling corn tomorrow if necessary.

Nice looking truck Rich!

I drove mine about 90 miles round trip today to talk to a shop about putting on a new exhaust. Same shop that did my tires just a few blocks from DaOzTinman.
Truck did great.

Steering has the Benny hill wobble to it, but nothing an adjustment won't clean up. Greased all the zerks and changed all the oils in prep for the big day tomorrow.

Can't wait for the muffler. Right now it's a little loud under load with the straight pipe.

We harvested on Saturday this past weekend. Hauled 2 loads with my 49 4400. First load was around 164 bushels, and the 2nd was around 75. I also used my neighbors grain truck as we lined up the grain trucks and as one filled I drove it to the elevator. "Big Red" my 4400 was first, and third(final).

It handled the full load fine, which was basically piled, but would have been level with the top of the box if smoothed out. I removed the extensions the previous owner had built.

Truck drove smoothly, bucked a little starting in first, but otherwise moved and stopped fine. I was glad for the fully renovated brakes, but overall really didn't need them to much.

The truck handled the load fine. Cruised pretty well loaded at speed. Hydraulic hoist dumped as it should. Guys at the elevator told me I had the oldest truck to deliver during this harvest.

If you have harvested grain and hauled to an elevator during the peak of season you are familiar with waiting in line to go through the scales/unloading/etc. sitting in Big Red I got quite a few thumbs up, smiles etc. I also sweated and ate a lot of dust from the modern trucks running through. Good times.

AWESOME!! Glad your truck didn't have any issues! Mine seems to run/handle better with a load, than it does empty! Did you take any pic's,by chance?? That would be GREAT,for the "Big-Bolt" Calender!! THANKS!!

Sounds awesome. We used to use our 50 4400 to haul grain for years. Always got looks. I had my choice of that or a binder to drive I always took the Chevy
