Fred "truckernix" Nixon is going to be our Communication Bolter at the switchboard in Stovebolt HQ Dispatch. He has the list of cell phone numbers. So, if you get in a pickle, PM or post in here and he can get you connected.

I'm not sure we are quite ready for a logistics board, with trucks and highways, and all that cool stuff ... but it would be fun. Too bad we are not smart enough to set that up virtually. That'd be fun to track everyone.

Thanks Fred for doing this. This will be easy to check to see who is on the road and who is on approach (and hopefully, that no one is stuck someplace!).

Safe travels everyone.

Cheers,
Peg

Everyone may not be able to post or communicate here unless they have a "road computer". But that's OK.... I have YOUR number smile

That's what I am hoping ... everyone will have someone's number (kinda like a buddy system - but not a phone tree -- eeyuuuouuu).

Quite a few will be able to connect on-line, and several via their smarty-pants phone. I figure that is what we will do if we get in a spot. Oh, ha! I have the phone list. Duh. We just don't feel comfortable about giving out everyone's cell phone number.

So, before you head out -- link up with at least one (two is better). Even if it is someone not going. The person NOT GOING can post to this thread.

We just changed our plan ... and are leaving in the morning. One last night in our bed!

Peg

Fred,

That's what we were hoping for!

We are waiting for the morning traffic to be mostly done in Dayton, Ohio before we head out. Made for a chance to sleep in, ,which was nice. The temps here are better than there were in Maryland when we left yesterday. I think they look good going into Indianapolis, too.

Only one big traffic issue on I-70 as we came across. Some beer delivery truck had gone down into the ditch (now this is still in the mountains). If he had gone about 1 or 2 feet more, he would have rolled down the hillside. I think the guardrail stopped him, but he still broke through it. Looked like no one injured but probably really scared. Of course, all the folks on CB radios offered to help him get his load (beer)off.

That traffic delay was only for two miles and we were on the downside of the mountain. Oh, speaking of, those are some HILLS! Some with 8% grades. The truck runaway ramps really make you think as you pass them. Fortunately, not much traffic all the way once we got away from DC. Lots and lots of big rigs, tho.

Check in tonight.

Peggy

We're in Warrenton, MO for the evening. My beloved is "freshening up" and then I plan to treat her to a birthday dinner ... I saw some frozen burritos in a cooler in a truck stop awhile back ... I wrapped 'em in a rag I had and laid them on top of the Cummins... they should be pretty tasty by now ... smile See if I can find some PBR and it will be one for the books!

Thank you all. This is my first chance to log in as myself. Shoot ... I didn't realize John had a surprise for me. I know there is a Walmart across the street here. I thought he'd treat me to a new box of Ritz crackers.

Thanks everyone. This has been some birthday ride. I think I will never think it's too far to go to Billy Marlow's (2 hours), the doctor (2 hours) or Winchester (or someplace I have always thought was too far, that was 3 hours), or even Devil's Backbone.

Yesterday was my first time to even take a very little snooze and I missed an RV turned over in the median. Other than that, it was corn, corn, corn, soybeans, soybeans. We were definitely out of the mountains or even any little hills. I do believe it will be flat driving today also.

John was telling me about his trip driving in Texas. For some long stretches, there isn't even a sign or turn (even a little turn) in the road. Dang!

Am I abusing Communication Central?

Back to biz: we are just west of St. Louis (what a lot of traffic that was) and just so happened we stopped at the same place that John and Joe R stopped and met up with Leo and Fred! I feel honored. Plus, we are on the second floor so we can see the truck(s) out our window.

AND for my birthday, I got an extra hour to my day. How about that??? grin

Okay, we are here. We just ran into Alvin. He and Victoria are going to get a bite to eat. Paul Schmel should be here soon. I think he's checking into his room now (another hotel).

So, first batch - safe and sound. Have text'd Scott, KCMongo and Mike Taylor to let them know we are here.

First event will be picnic with the Aldersons.

We just had a visit with June and Cletis. Hopefully, we'll see Tim and Karen at the Alderson's or in the hotel later for our fist "wind down."

We just got back from Alderson's. What a great turn out of people and trucks. Good food and a great first catching up with everyone.

The weather was pretty cooperative, too.

The Walhs made it ... that was a nice surprise. And the Priors did make it to the hotel. I believe John is hunting Tim down to share a brew.

The folks who are coming in Friday ... early the gang will eat a breakfast here at the Econolodge. Then next big item is to meet at the Park at noon for set up.

It was a good day today. A bunch met for breakfast which was fun. After a bit, four of us headed out to get the prizes for tomorrow. Then we headed to the park for set up.

Different to see the park with nothing but our gang slowly coming in, you could easily see KCMongo on the golf car far off, and then Andy's BBQ rig came rolling in. Mike Taylor arrived soon with the parts to set up our station. Mongo gave us a new location closer to the check-in point at the front entrance. We have three trees again.

I was in a good moon: Brewster brought me some DARK CHOCOLATES!!!

Didn't take long to set up since we had many hands. Tiny showed up soon and we all had a good time catching up. We have a few new fellows here and I hope to get their stories and truck pictures tomorrow when I'll have more time.

When the rain came (about 3:30) and lasted longer than a shower, we all headed out. We met back at the Econolodge and folks took a little break. Then, the gang headed in different directions. From what I know, Cletis, June and Tim went into town for jazz music and Bar-B-Q. Alvin, Vikki and Brian (and maybe some others) headed off for dinner. John, Don, Vicki and Paul headed back to the park since the rain was done and the sun came out. I'm here warming up and catching up on the mail.

John said the band is real good. I hope he gets some more pictures on his camera. Hopefully, Cletis will give us a report on the jazz adventure.

We saw John and Theresa Lucas early this morning and John helped unload the '49 from the trailer. After that, folks were scattered and I didn't see them again. Stranger also was here early pulling his LCF which looked cool from afar. Gonna check that out better tomorrow when I get to borrow the golf cart. Stranger and his son are camping and fortunately, they brought warm blankets. Tonight won't be so bad but tomorrow night, it is suppose to be 51! We have a nice thick Stovebolts Rules sweatshirt that may be a big "prize desire" tomorrow afternoon.

Joe Weimer snuck into our canopy while it was raining and we looked at the "guy" for a little while and didn't realize it was him until he said, in his oh so low voice, "Hellooo Peg." Oh man! He looks good. He's lost a bunch of weight. He had a bit of a hard time getting into the Park since it's around-about way in with no real signage for the Park (mostly for the Casino ... so it is confusing).

Starting jotting down notes for next year already.

Signing off for now ...

Peg

Just to let those know who are checking in, breakfast (a biggun) is at Denny's this morning. Some of the gang have headed over there just now (7:40 a.m.). So, when you read this, go on over. I'm sure they'll be there until 8:30 or so.

We figured we'd be heading to the Park about 9 or so. (Give it a little more time to dry out AND get a little warmer).
