If you're switching from 6V,to 12V,(with an alternator),voltmeters are suggested as being safer than ammeters. Ammeters run in series,(No FUSE),which is O.K. for lower-output generators. When used in conjunction with a (much) higher-output alternator,it may be a FIRE HAZARD! Another alternative,would be a shunt,(voltage reducer) installed,between the alternator,and the ammeter. I installed an under-dash voltmeter,in my T.F.'55. As far as I know,(and I LOOKED),there are no retro voltmeters available,at this time. I THINK Bartamos kindly offered to make one for me,but I decided on the under-dash unit,since mine is a 2-ton,and definitely not "Stock". Hope this helps!
