For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 11 | Trying to start up my 52 but the previous owner pretty much cut off the entire harness. Does anyone have a basic (or detailed)schematic/picture on the wiring for a 216? I was able to turn the motor over (via jumper cables and the floor pedal) but didn't introduce the spark into the equation. I just want to start the motor to see if it will run. Plan is to use a 12 volt battery and a gas can. Currently has a 6V generator. This would be a completely "rigged" setup. Any help or pictures would be awesome. Tried searching the forums but no luck.

1. Positive battery cable directly to starter switch. 2. Negative battery cable to frame or directly to engine. 3. Wire from battery positive through 2 pole (on/off) switch to positive side of ignition coil. 4. Wire from negative side of ignition coil to distributor housing terminal.
That's it, it will run. Use the on/off switch to energize coil/distributor. Ensure points are clean and adjusted properly. 12V will not burn out coil or points if only used a short period of time (I think this is true for the coil...might want to pop in 12v coil just to be sure).
Also, might want to gravity feed the carb from gas can sitting on roof of truck...don't let it vibrate off the roof. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 11 | Awesome that is just what I needed...stupid question but should I gravity feed the gas via the fuel line or just drip into the top of the carb?

To clarify, on a 52 the "starter switch" is located on/at the starter motor. It is NOT the key switch inside the cab. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | Also if you do not know what's inside the stock gas tank then be sure to use an external container with fresh gas. Best of luck. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 11 | Well it fired up!!! Couldn't keep it running though. To many thing are disconnected so a quick start and brief idle/rev was okay for me. Oil sprayed everywhere (pressure gauge was not connected)! Does anyone have a good set of photos that shows items connected fuel, vacuum, oil? I have a new wire harness on the way and will be converting to a 12V. Thanks everyone for the advice
