My carburetor needs replaced! the "BB" in the discharge chamber is stuck. Carb. is manual choke. I have a guy willing to sell me a Rochester B,with an automatic choke. the price is right, but does anyone have experience installing one on a 235/261,with Fenton's? Is it possible to convert the auto. choke carb. to manual, without compromising the integrity of the linkage,(vacuum leak)? any tips/ideas are APPRECIATED!! THANKS!!

The only difference is a heat source for the auto choke to use. You can plumb a small copper line down to the exhaust manifold and wrap it around the whole manifold or lay it across, as long as the copper tube heats up, either will work. The hot air drawn in through the copper tube will heat the auto choke spring and back it off. Water heat will be to slow for a choke.

The rest of the carb should bolt right into place.

Thanks,Joe! Come to think of it,both headers have "bungs" for heat riser tubes. One could be converted easily enough,to serve both purposes. I don't know why i didn't picture that at the time i posted my question! Have a good week-end!!

They do make kits for converting automatic chokes to manual. I believe they sell them around those Dorman products....at auto parts places.

Never cared for the auto chokes, seems like you always need to tinker with them to keep it working right.

I'm with John on the auto chokes. I like my throttle cable and sometimes wish I had a spark advance lever like a Model T. All of the so-called advances, eliminating these components were designed so that knuckleheads can drive.
