painted or "brightwork"?
Painted moldings were steel.
If they are original bright-work for the front, side, or rear windows it was stainless steel.
Which window?
Which year (there are year-by-year differences)?
Stainless steel can be slightly magnetic, but not as strong as regular steel sheet metal.

I've seen some with them chromed but mine are not chromed they have paint on them. They are a bit rusted or at least two of them with one being cracked through due to the rust. I was wondering if I would be able to weld them with a mig or tig welder. Sorry I just noticed I didn't specify which windows. I'm talking about the rear sliding side windows.

The side window "reveals" were never chromed from the factory on any 47-55 Suburban (door windows and rear-side windows).
Pickups and panels had optional "bright" (stainless) door window reveals in 1951.
