The wait is over and my new to me 41' 1 1/2 ton stake bed will be with me over the weekend. (thanks Grigg!) Now on to the important stuff. I am new to old vehicle ownership. What are some things I need to know about the care and feeding of this fine vehicle? Any anecdotes, little hints or hacks would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Welcome to the 'Bolt wave! VERY nice truck you have there. What a cool way to be indoctrinated into the old truck hobby! dance

Nice looking truck. It looks a lot like my '46 2-ton. Where in Mass. are you? I'm in the southwest corner.

NICE truck!

For starters, you'll probably have to learn to double clutch, if you don't already know how.
And, assuming the engine and drive train are stock, just drive it accordingly. You won't win any races with it. Also, allow plenty of room when stopping. Also, you'll probably need a football field to turn it around in!

That's a beautiful truck! I wish it were mine!

Are there any fuel additives you would suggest? I know the ethanol and lack of lead are not helpful to engine health

TK, pump gas is fine, lack of lead has no effect for the 'hobbyist', you won't be using the truck enough or loading it hard, if you get the engine rebuilt, request hardened seats otherwise just drive it regularly .... and the ethanol issue is discussed here constantly, no issue for some, extreme problem for a very few

I buy ethanol free gas whenever I can. It's a good idea for the limited use an old truck gets, sitting more than running, same for the lawn mower and forklift.

Don't worry about a fuel additive.

If the engine is original, not recently cleaned and rebuilt I would use a non detergent oil.
If it is rebuilt and known to be clean inside I'd use normal straight 30 weight oil, like Shell Rotella-T SAE 30.

We should see your truck in 6 or 7 hours from now.
