Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | I'm headed to Maine Friday to fetch a generator. On the way picking up a 1941 1.5 ton Chevy in Lovettsville, VA to deliver in Upton, MA. Also in Maine I scouted out a couple junk shops last week (also in previous years) and plan to spend more time looking for buried treasures Saturday. Drive home Sunday. Anyone interested in riding along? Some of what you may come to expect... http://flanamullegan.wordpress.com/2013/05/26/youre-on-a-road-trip-with-grigg-a-toast/Grigg | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 2,234 Moderator: Interiors, Texas Bolters, Name that Part | | Moderator: Interiors, Texas Bolters, Name that Part Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 2,234 | I wish the wife was at home so i could go. Do you want to see where he's going?? Google "Cowsh*t Corner, ME" and check out the street view. Looks like they've taken down the big sign, but otherwise... That's what that part of Kennebec county looks like. If you want a truly beautiful part of the County, you have to go to Pittson. That's where the truly beautiful people are (from).

If you let me know when and where you are going to be in Lovettsville on Friday, I may be able to assist in loading the 1.5, or just see you off from Virginia (where beautiful people reside).

Victor, Thursday about 6:30-7:00 in the evening We'll be on Lutheran Church Road between Rt680 and Rt287 to load the 41 Chevy. Though I don't foresee any issues we'd be glad to have you stop by and lend a hand if you are available.

Now were in Hallowell Maine for the night. Saturday morning go load a generator on the trailer. Then a side trip to a Junk shop in Searsport. Saturday night hope to spend the night in Attleboro, MA.

Loading went fine and we had plenty of time for junk shopping in Maine, few small nice finds but nothing spectacular.

Hallowell to Searsport is not a trivial drive (as you now know ....) But it is pretty.
Glad you enjoyed my home turf!

Actually it was Whitefield to Searsport and I thought it was quite a nice drive, about a hour, nice country and decent roads, not slow at all. We went without trailer. Very long day/drive home Sunday though we still got home about 9:30 in the evening. Here are a couple pictures of the catch. https://picasaweb.google.com/118082...ailerUnit?authuser=0&feat=directlink | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 ODSS Lawman | | ODSS Lawman Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,418 | Now the great question, how big of an ice cream maker will this make?
Seriously, what is the plan for it?

Though I prefer to turn my diesel fuel more directly into ice cream, leave those pesky and hard to see electrons out of the delicate process of making fine ice cream.
It'll be a backup generator for the house and I suppose portable should I need it somewhere else.

The pickup handled it well, we traveled about 60-65 mph on the highway without slowing down much for the hills. The main factor was the brakes, even with 4 wheel trailer brakes it was a chore to stop, I kept my eyes on the road way far ahead of us. A few steep hills on local roads we climbed about maxed out in second gear, similar on a couple down hills, 20 MPH in 3rd gear, could have tried slower and second...
But how well it really did I don't yet know, not sure the weight. My guess was 3,000-4,000lb each, another educated guess was 5,000 or a little more each. The trailer weighs about 3,000 to start with. I considered weighing it all at a truck stop but decided I didn't really want to know before we got home. I'll weigh just one generator unit later on.
