Welcome, Wayne, from Canada. You've joined a big group. Can't help you on uploading - barely know what to do, myself - but we'll be waiting on the pics.

Look forward to seeing your "new" truck. The Australian versions are always just a bit different.

Wayne,

That is a cool project! I love the front end view of the 1939-40 trucks.

It is odd that the Holden cabs look basically the same, but are different in so many aspects. The ventilation systems are totally different than North American models. Does it have a cowl vent at the top near the windshield as well, or only the ones on the side? Also, is the mechanism that opens the windshield original, as it looks like nothing I have ever seen. The inside door panels are also quite different. I am not sure about it being ex-military, but did notice that it has a military like oil can holder on the firewall. The discovery phase is the most fun part of a restoration. Enjoy!

Paul

Wayne,

Are you planning on restoring your new truck like original? It would be great to see the progression of a Holden Chevy.

There is guy in your town rebuilding a WW2 KW969, small world I guess. Sam seems to know his way around a shop, you may want to meet him. Check out his restoration at:

Thanks for the heads up Paul.. Will try to contact Sam..! Yes sort of thinking of Resto but want to change the tray to steel checker plate flat bed with better proportions, And putting power assist dual circuit brakes and as it is fitted with True widow maker rims am looking into getting wheels rebuilt using old centres fitted to new late model 2 piece fims changing to 12volt and electric wipers just for safety... but will be painting it Khaki...:-) what do you think..?

Wayne,

I don't know what the truck should look like as far as the bed, could that one be original? If you think it may be military, perhaps it warrants some investigation as to what you have. Your wheels don't look like the Firestone RH5's to me, can you post a closer up image? If they are multi-piece wheels in decent condition, I would go with them. My 235 starts like a champ with a good 6 volt battery. How often are you planning on driving in the rain? If infrequently, the parts to restore the vacuum wiper motors are out there. Keep in mind, I am more of a restoration/preservation type so I am showing my bias. Close to original military trucks are worth more than mongrels. I guess it comes down to what you want to do. I look forward to seeing more images.

paul tray not original spent most of life on farm has a grain bag lift on rear rh side and in glove box a bag hook.. Rims have split ring held on with 2 rivets led to believe that means widow makers? we live in sub tropics nothing to get big rains 5in in minutes so good wipers a must.! needs a total rewire so might as well go 12 volt and lights not sealed beams and planning on going full rego not club rego so can drive daily will even need to fit seat belts and blinkers (utilizing front park lights)to make road legal as have to compy with ADRs (Austalian Design Rules). Just want to make Him (DUDLEY name of last owner ;-) user friendly for next 74 years...!
