Since this is the welcome center you will be better to ask questions in the most appropriate forum. There is also tech tips and the gallery and links to help you.
....anyway, I think the location for the vin tag may be on the passenger side cowling when you raise the hood.... but these questions can be answered in the Paint and Body or even in the General Truck forums. Help is here and available. Sometime you may have to be patient for a day or two till the right person signs in but the guys here are great.
...anyway, the engine number should be located on a "pad" just behind/beside the distributor! That would be a qood question to ask in the engine forum. The guys there can help and also decipher the number or tell you how to do it. Good luck.
