I got my frame blasted today and I will be welding the holes shut, reinforcing the rear part of the frame and boxing the entire frame. On the inside of the frame, before I box it shut, what should I use? Can ZeroRust take the heat of welding and still keep away rust? I plan to rustproof the inside of the frame but I still want something covering the bare metal first. Any and all suggestions welcome.
Scott | | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | I would not recommend welding through ZR as it will contaminate the weld as would any other paint, rust or grease. I have had to do some fab rework on my frame after I painted it with ZR but I use a wire wheel to clean the area first, do the rework, remove the weld splatter/flux, and then repaint the area using ZR from a rattle can. The ability to retouch areas when using ZR is one of the benefits in my opinion. I then drain out the excess ZR into the can for use elsewhere. Get a short case, call some friends and invite them over for a "frame tossing party", tape up all the holes, pour in a quantity of ZR and roll the frame over and around until everything is coated, let it drain and attack the short case.
