I pulled one off a '47 and when I went to install it on a 1950 Chevy, it is shorter and the mounting face to the bell housing is different. (patricksantiquecars.com. Click on Articles.) It sounds like if you get the bell housing that was on the engine the transmission came from, it should fit on your engine and allow you to use the '47 transmission. You may have to deal with driveshaft/torque tube lengths and number of splines , though. Someone with more knowledge will probably provide info on this.FYI,I have learned from the Stovebolt site that there can be (in different components)differences between Chevy and GMC

It used the early non-synchro 4 speed and had a longer torque tube than the 1948-54 truck because of the shorter transmission.

New Design is the GM name for 1947-1955st series GMC trucks.
Advance-Design is the GM name for Chevrolet trucks for those years.
If you bought that 47 transmission, post it for sale in the Swap Meet. Someone with a 1947 model truck might need it or want it for a spare.
