I thought I got '"Tater running right, but, now I don't think I'm getting spark! It cranks fast enough, but won't even "pop"! Not even with a "prime"!! Like a dummy,I got perplexed, and got busy looming up some more wires, since I didn't have a "helper",to crank the engine over. I still got a bunch of stuff done today. Connected the voltmeter, horn, and got the grounds all mounted securely. Just now,I realize that I have a "test' light, and I don't need a helper to check for spark,(HOPEFULLY). With an H.E.I. dizzy,if I have power to the module, then I should have power to the plugs, shouldn't I?? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 |

There are a few more components that may be incorrect, the module itself may be bad, does the rotor and cap match, do the wires actually seat in the cap and have electrical continuity. Is every thing grounded properly? I have had all the above happen at one time or another. Are you getting the proper voltage? The electronic ignitions are more sensitive to voltage. There is a vey good chance you just have the timing off a bit. But if you don't get spark, you will eventually come to these places to look as well. I just spent two evenings trying to figure out why my lawn mower that ran flawlessly last weekend, wouldn't start THIS weekend. Turns out there was/is a itty bitty wire going from the coil to the ignition switch that was pinched between the starter and the block. That would sometimes not ground out and kill the engine, and sometimes wouldn't ground out and let the engine run. things like that. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 1,248 | Yeah the module goes bad it is like shutting off the switch. I had that happen one time on my Nova. Pulled out of the road starting up a hill and engine just died.....

These wires move every time the vacuum advances moves and over time they can break.
Another area to look is at the coil contact to rotor. There is a tiny spring touching the coil bottom and a brush like material touching the rotor. If either get dirty you can get problems. While checking the coil, be sure the ground terminal is installed and screwed to the coil.
A friend of mine chased a high rpm miss in a dirt car for a year and a half, turned out to be the $1.99 lighted switch they used for the ignition!
