| | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | As some of you know my next build is going to be a dodge big block '400' in a ad truck.I'm going to build it to look like a 50s gasser no fenders and the front end up a little.So I got the engine the trans is a 727.What I gotta find now is a rear end. Some of my options ,12 bolt GM,Ford 9 inch,or a Dodge dana 60.The engine will be putting out about 400 to 450 HP. I'm leaning toward the Ford 9 inch.There is a junk yard about 2 hours from here that has one.

So what about the rear end.Sure wish you lived closer Alvin this build will be right up You're ally.
I'll start looking for a dana 60, Bill they do seem harder to come by.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 1,094 | The dana 60 came in a lot of work trucks/vans and 4x4's, shouldn't be that hard to find, but you will have to probably put new mounts on it as I doubt you will find one that matches up to an ad truck.

You can get by using a Ford 9" along with a number of other rear ends. If your going for the gasser look you could also find a mid 50's Olds or Pontiac rear, that was the preferred rear when the gasser wars started. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2009 Posts: 1,644 | Well Don, now I'm looking at 50s Olds or Pontiac rears.I got the time anyway.Build not going to start for at least 2 months ,going to build new garage first.I have the engine parts at the machine shop getting done ,heads needed new valve guilds and exhaust seats,crank needed to be reground 10 under.Good news is the PO had the block bored 30 over and the new pistons are good to go.Trans is going to the trans shop next week to get rebuilt and a 2200 stall fitted.I like having all the parts here before I start.I'm going to keep the block empty and just set the heads on it tell It's time to finish the build that way I can fab every thing,than build the engine and install and start her up.
