Just ran across this beast of an apache. Looks? Like the rear would have been for fire dept maybe? Anyone know anything about this model? Just different and thought worth sharing as its one you don't see every day.

The box in not factory. Looks like it might be for a later model single wheel truck. I see them all the time, mostly electrical contractors, plus the phone and cable companies have them.
On the other hand, the truck itself is somewhat odd, being the unusual 3/4 ton with the dual wheel option.

yes, just a 3rd party utility body on the highest GVW 3/4T, common back in the day

If you can look close enough, you might find a manufacturer tag of the utility body.

Back in the mid 60's when I worked as a grunt at the Chevy dealership it was not unusual for us to take a cab/chassis the 50 miles to RockHill Body works and have a bed/body of the owners choice put on the truck. Some looked nice and some were just plain U G L Y. But it was what they wanted.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
