I'm upgrading to 12 volts and still using the original foot starter. I was wondering if this will prematurely cause the starter to fail? It's already older than me but I am not sure if the starter needs to be changed or reworked to handle more voltage? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | It'll be fine. Just don't crank it for minutes at a time. If for whatever reason it doesn't start normally don't crank until the battery dies.

This causes the engine to start much easier. If your 6 volt starter on 12 volts does not start your engine before you heat up the starter, you have a serious engine problem requiring attention unrelated to your starter.
