Hidiy fellow 'bolters & 'boltettes-

First of all, I have learned a lot from reading the posts on here for the past two months, and really admire the fact that everyone shows each other respect- especially to the members (like myself) who haven't been rebuilding motors their whole lives. Y'all seem like a great group of folks to learn from!

Second, "Claude" (the salesman's name at the dealership where my great uncle bought the truck new- I have receipt) is a three-speed, floor starting, 2nd Series 1955 Chevy 3100 with a 235ci engine. Claude was rebuilt by my uncle (40 yrs mech. exp.) for our relative (PO) about 12-15 years ago, and it basically sat covered until I lucked into owning it in 2011. After our relative passed away, his wife had sold Claude out of the family, where by chance I was able to buy it back for my (ehem!) then 4 month old son. He had always wanted an old Chevy truck, so I couldn't turn down the price ($360.68 less than my great uncle paid in September 1955).

The truck started up fine (2011) after installing a new battery (the one I removed was dated 1-22-1997), so I drove it around the farm, pastures, and country roads for a few days- absolutely LOVING it!

I knew work had to be done on it, as every where I went my clothes smelled highly flammable; AND the middle pedal to the right of the clutch suddenly lost all resistance one day...

No cows were harmed, but I got liability insurance & all new brakes the next day.

Fast forward to now & what I have/have not got done (the 4 month old is now almost 3 years old & he's ready to get his truck "fixed!"): new battery 2x & cables, brakes & lines, volt. regulator, fuel pump, tires, distributor, wires, plugs, oil change 2x, radiator, fan belt, ign ballast resistor, ign circuit wiring & terminal ends, and most recently- new starter switch and I had the starter rebuilt.

I have a new vacuum advance & Roch BC carb rebuild kit I'm yet to install. As of last fall, that's where my running & stalling shifting into gear issues were isolated (I cheated the VacAdv to full advance with a wire).

Now, I don't know which way to go or what to do & will post questions with video link & details in the engine forum later.

Sorry to get long winded, but hello to all of you & thanks in advance! I hope my 2011 pictures show up:

Welcome Brad, sounds like you're having a lot of fun with it. Hopefully your young lad can help a bit as you get Claude back together. He's never too young to learn. Good luck!

Steve- I'm down here in SE HSV, but it will be a few days before I'm back on the road...

Yep, I like the TF series as well.

Thanks

Brad, your a lucky man to have such a nice truck to begin with. I know you say it needs a little work but don't they all.
Great to have you aboard.

Note. That's a good story for the DIY forum from which a story can be added to the Gallery along with a picture. Let us know what you need and ask questions in the most appropriate forum.
Good luck.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
