Guess it's about time I get modern and put some seat belts in this 53 Chev, but where to attach? Just in case they have an instection next time I go to the dump. The interior is gutted, gotta get it done.

I followed the instructions and placed them so they were right behind the seat frame to have enough length.

Thanks Brad, I'm finally getting around to cleaning up the interior of this old truck. The seatbelts have been in the glove box for at least ten years now.

Your truck is about the same blue as mine was orginally, will go back with that color if I ever get around to a full resto. I also have the semaphore unit that will go on soon as I get the stakesides rebuilt.

I purchased and followed write-up in/from Julianos. Install was not too difficult, but definitely takes some fabrication and welding skills. I feel good about having three point seatbelts in the truck that I feel will hold up well. Definitely worth the time and effort.

The thing about the Juliano's instruction is that it works for 5 window cabs as well as 3. They are good people to deal with as well.

I found the belts a bit short and bought julianos angle brackets for the under seat connections.

I assume you mean inspection. why would that mater in California you do not have to have seat belts in a 53, unless it was original equip with seatbelts.

Even thought I am not arguing about installing seatbelts in your truck.

Julianos has a very nice 3 point belt kit for the AD trucks. I also added a lap belt for the middle but find it a bit short. I will call them about an extension for it. Deve from this site has GOOD info on installation. Jerry

I'm going with two point belts, just was curious what best anchor points. Three point would be nice though.

My reference to inspection at the DUMP was tongue-in-cheek, as up to this point in owning this truck the dump is about as far as I get. But in CA anything is possible.

DADS50, just what I needed, thank you. Also among your pics do you have a shot of the BIG return spring for the seat? Found the hole at front of spring, not sure where it attaches in back. I believe it's only on the driver's side in my 53.

My cousin not only got fined at the dump for no tarp, then they made him buy their tarp! Only good thing about going to the dump is getting my truck's weight. They charge per pound, weigh in and out.

There are two styles for seat frames in that folder

My 50 has the one with the cable and pulley .
The other seat frame is off a 51 I think.

Your 53 may not be the same as what I have in my 50?


On the lap belts I made some blocks out of flat bar for the bolts. Gives it a little extra strength. The big round washers came with the kit.

I added a hook to the back of the seat frame from my sons car seat.

Don't think mine has any cables. Nice job on the belts, can't have to much re-enforcemt on these anchors.
