I have a repro gas tank and repro instrument cluster in my 1952 Chevrolet 3/4 ton pickup. Whenever the truck is moving the gasoline gauge needle swings wildly as if the gasoline is sloshing around in the tank and the sending unit is following the waves up and down.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

My stock needle moves in a rhythmic manner due to sloshing gas in the stock tank, and I take pleasure in it, as it means that it is reading SOME gas in the tank as opposed to being stuck at 1/2 full when I am actually running on fumes. How much is your needle moving?

No baffles in an AD tank. The sender is a potentiometer and the
wiper or coil could be corroded. I'd pull the sender and check
it out with a meter.

Mine has gone completly crazy and depending which way you hold the gauge the needle goes everywhere. May need to find a watchmaker to do surgery but now waiting for my new gauge to show up.
