I am installing a new wiring harness, meant to be a direct replacement for this model truck from one of the established vendors. It has extra wires for turn signals. I bought the harness some years back and don't remember who sold it... My truck has aftermarket turn signals mounted which have been working fine, with extra lights front and back, a three prong flasher, and a normal switch mounted on the column. I've cut the wires from the switch, so using terms I vaguely recall from a past life I would describe the switch as single pole double-throw with an accompanying indicator light for the flasher. I would expect one would only need four wires to the switch. The harness seems to expect me to be using combination brake/turn signals on the rear, and so sends only three leads to the back, parking lights and left and right brake lights. I expect I will need another wire to the back. The harness leaves 5 wires under the dash for the signals, one for brake light to turn signal switch and four wires to the signals at the four corners of the truck. My question is to how to run the wiring to the flasher? I suppose the brake light switch should simply send its output directly to a single brake light wire. The turn signal will need a (fused) positive feed from somewhere under the dash (the switched side of the ignition?) but where does this positive go? Switch and flasher? From where does the indicator light on the signal switch get its power? I suppose I could figure it all out if I just understood how the flasher functions, and had a lot of time and an extra flasher or two. Thanks all

Karl The 3 prong flasher terminals are X. Power P. pilot light L. Designated wire from switch. I put my fuse between the X post and where I grabbed my power Trace the pilot light off the switch and put that wire on the P post How many wires total come off the switch? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 2,074 | My old truck has a 'Signal-Stat' brand turn sig switch, pretty common. I searched the net and found diagrams and even found old copies of instructions on ebay. This one is a little different. It is not a Signal-Stat. It comes in a black bakelit housing and needs only 4 wires. From your description, Dads50, it looks like the flasher is always powered, and the switch only directs the signal left or right. What would keep the indicator from flashing continuously? The better question - how is the flasher itself switched on and off by the column-mounted switch? This will have nothing to do with the brake lights. But it makes it look like the indicator light needs a separate 6 volt positive and that the flasher send an intermittant ground. Can it be that the diagram is unclear? The pilot light won't light untill you signal a turn.
It looks like you should have five wires comming from the switch. The 4 turn lights and 1 pilot light?
