Hey all
Im Ray. Live in Sandy Oregon, I am a custom metal fabricator and mobile welding repair guy.
I have a 1974 Chevy stepside as my daily driver and a 1 ton dodge as my work truck.
More Interesting than that is My 1946 Chevy COE that I would like to put together. but I need a lot of help. My First problem is finding a readable VIN I dragged her down to the DMV today and the tag under the hood was unreadable. Where else might I find A VIN on this old truck? Thanks for the help guys..

welcome to the garage Ray ... unfortunately that tag under the hood is the only place the ID number can be found, you'll likely need to work with the DMV for a new title somehow

Don't give up on that tag, I have seen some very crusty tags salvaged, at least made readable.

Here's an OLD POST That may give you some help. Whatever you do, do lose that tag! Do you have any old registration that shows the "vin" number? There is always a question on what this number is, most DMV departments treat it as a ''VIN" VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, it is the assigned serial number from the factory.

The tag is present and the stamped numbers are readable. I also have the title in hand with the vin number on it. the problem is that the dmv wants to see the vin on the truck. which I told them doesn't exist and I showed them the specifications book that shows there is no actual spot on the truck that shows the vin. they said that the state police have to verify the vin since they could not find it.

Ramon, you can start a build thread in the DIY forum which is a sub forum of the welcome center. From there a gallery submission can be done with a short story on your truck .....and late updates.

Individual questions and advice on a particular problem should be addressed in the forum related to it. Engine questions should go in the Engine Forum and driveline questions in the Driveline Forum and so on.....
Then you can continue to adding to your DIY thread as you see fit. When you add to it, it will show up as being newly posted to and folks can read it.
The welcome center is definitely not the forum to ask technical questions. Its so folks can look in at new members who perhaps could even be in their area and to get to know who you are and from.

There is just soooo much here. Spend some time getting familiar with each forum and learning to do searches, check out tech tips and links. Just a lot of knowledge here.

Good luck
