Wondering if mineral spirits or acetone would be better to thin it with and how much? So far I've seen 10%, 25% and 40%. I have also seen that adding a hardner may help. Mix them if you want.
How much has more to do with the size nozzle your gun has. Thicker for larger and thinner for smaller till you get the pattern you're looking for.
I use up old hardener in Rustoleum whenever I shoot it. About a cap full per qt of paint, then I reduce.

I am thinking Rustoleum recommends acetone as I recently talked to their customer service people about cleaning or reducing their automotive line of paints ..... they recommended not to reduce it and if I had to, use acetone .... they make so many kinds of paint though I could be wrong .... their technical people were knowledgeable and helpful .... let us know what you use so we can know whether or not it worked well

I have done it many times and it works/sprays (1.3 tip in HVLP gun) fine. It's a fiberglass trailer to tow behind my Harley. Originally tried rustoleum rattle cans, but had runs and spotty coverage.
So sanded, scuffed and washed it real good. Ended up borrowing paint, clear and hardner from a friend that he said was enamel and shot it yesterday with a HF HVLP gun. He suggested 4:1 on the hardener and I guess he was close enough.
While it has some orange peel, the little woman loves it and that's what counts. Maybe I'll link to some to pics later on. | | |
