The letters were punched out, but came with the background material. I removed the letters and used the remaining material to use as a stencil. I spray painted the letters and they came out much better than either the decal alone or brush painting. These were on reproduction stainless hubcaps and they still look good today. I think I got the idea from this forum.

I've done that to hubcaps as well as the hood ornaments on the front. Use a really good UV resistant powder and it'll last a really long time. | | |
