Well I am near the end of my restoration and one of the last thing is to put the windshield back on the truck. Now I have the gasket on it and it look pretty good laying on the bench. No problem 6 upper screw and two screw on the regulator, easy right. Not so fast it does not set square in the hole and for what I see there is no adjustment up and down or side to side. I am about 1/2 inch off and the gasket does not seal at the bottom corners. I am thinking about making the top six holes bigger so that I can get some adjustment to square this thing up and help the frame gasket seal a little better. I have a Jim carter windshield gasket and have order a Steele one to replace it with, they look a little different and I hope that the steele is a little softer. Anyone have in better idea, I am looking for help. Thanks Jerry

I have the same problem with my windshield on my 37. I can't remember where I bought my rubber seal but it does not cover up the recessed area below the windshield all the way across the bottom either. I believe I have the correct 37 frame (at least I hope so, since I've had it chromed and new tinted glass made) I have owned this truck since around 1987 and that was the frame that came with it. It was bone stock when I bought it in Phoenix for $500.00. I'll be watching for an answer to our problem

I would have thought that more people would have had this problem. I looks at hundreds of pictures and all looks the same with the gasket inside the cutout part of the front windshield area of the cab or close to it. My gasket on the top will hit the wiper shaft when I open the windshield all the way open. I have found since I posted this topic that my frame has some areas the are wider than others and I also have some rusted out areas after I went back in and scrape the paint away in the track which causes the gasket to not seat all the way in the track. But it still sits crooked in the hole. Thanks Norm

Not much to add here except that the gasket on my 37 windshield does not fit like we'd like for it to....especially in the lower corners.
I put a new frame on in 1999 and by 2012 it had rotted out due to the chrome plating job being sorry and blister. Then the moisture killed it bad in the corners and lower piece.

Bought a new frame and based on Steele Rubber Products reputation I decided to bit the bullet and buy one from them hoping it would "fit" better than other vendors. I spent the big bucks but boy was I surprised. The one I bought from JimCarter in '99 was still just as good as the one from Steele. I almost decided to use my old one but choose to use the new one and hope for the best. After closing my windshield it covered no more than my old one. In fact, the top sealing part on he old one was wider than Steele's even though by only a few 16th inches.
Just be sure when you close it to make sure the rubber pulled out or not cramped around the outer edge. Its the best you can do.

I'm not endorsing or kicking anyone. That is just my experience. I was hoping the frames, or rubber gaskets, would be better fitting but obviously not and I didn't have an original in one piece to look at in 1994!

I guess I need to stop looking at all those pictures of windshield frame that looks so good. I just do not think that the gasket should hit the windshield wiper motor shaft when I open it and it should be square in the hole. If it does that and it still does not seal on the bottom corners then I will fix that, but it has got to be square in the hole. Thanks Norm

Just a update to let you know what is going on. I got the steele gasket today and it is different, it is a little smaller and it is a lot softer. I will have my new frame tomorrow and I will let you know how the fit it. Thanks Norm

Ocala, have you measured the windshield opening for being square? It's possible your truck has been mis-shapened after all this time.

Norm, at least you confirm what I said above about steele's being a bit smaller.....

I have check the windshield opening and it is not perfect, but the frame should have fit in it. I will have the new frame today and will give everyone a update when I put it in. Also I have make the mounting holes in the hinges for the frame larger to give me some adjustment. I will try both frames in the opening and will use both gasket on the new frame to see if I can get it in the opening.

Achipmunk, it is smaller and softer. With all the pictures I looked at, I did not see one that has as much gasket material out side the opening and not A one that could have hit the windshield wiper shaft like mine does.

I got the new frame and the mounting holes didn't line up on one side or the other depending on which side you start with. I open both sets of holes up and the frame set rite in the hole. It is just a little tight on one side at the bottom, but I can take care of that. As you would look at the front window area you have the outside, one step down where the gasket will sit, and the second step is where the windshield frame sits. My frame now set correctly and rest on the two rubber bumper at the both of the windshield area where the regulator blade come out. Now let us see how it fits after I get it power coated. Another update, I went over to a friend that has a 37 truck that he is redoing and put my old frame in his cab and it would not fit in his either. We looked over the frame and it look like the frame has came loose for the glass, because you can push it in and out a 1/2 inch. I am going to take it apart tomorrow and see what is going on. The good new is that the new one is great and so is the steele gasket. Thanks Norm

Well, I have the new frame, windshield, and steele gasket on the truck and it fits perfect. It looks like all the other 37 pictures that I have looked at. The one thing that stand out between the old and new frame is that the old frame looks like it has sprung out on the bottom of the frame. You can push the frame up to make it fit the windshield better and that make it pull in on the lower sides of the frame. The old frame had some rust problem and was going to need replacing at some point and now was the best time to do it. thanks Norm
