I just got my factory assembly manual in the mail today. Holy cow, is it detailed! I didn't expect it to have 1/2 the information it does.

I'm almost too dumb to read it.

I've read dozens of architectural blue prints, boy this is a different animal.

Dog: I thought the same thing. Many times I forget to look in there. It actually has every little detail. Very valuable if you forget how to reassemble something. Part numbers too.

It would be nice to know what year truck you are talking about!

That would be the one.

It's the size of a phone book, from a fairly large city.

If you're not familiar with the FAM one thing to keep in mind is
that it was written in '54 and much of the information
addresses the last of the AD crop. A lot of it applies to the
whole series but it is not the bible for all things an all
years AD.
Great publication, wish there was one available for each year
specific but one that generalizes is better than non at all.
The hardest part is learning to find your way arouind in it.
It would save a lot of time if it have a decent index to refer to.

Yep, a table of contents or index would be great. Even splitting it up based on series would be nice.

I don't need to thumb through all the info on 5000 series trucks to find what I'm looking for.

At least we have these tools out there. I don't know what guys did before we had publications like that and websites to go to.

I guess you got your info from a friend of a friend of a friend.

Some evening, by the fire, with a beer, make your own index for your series.

I half a 1/2 ton, I found by cutting out the pages from other applications (COE/big bolts, 3/4T)trimmed the book down nicely and made it easier to use.

I had the same problem and made my own index but, didn't think anyone else would be that ocdc so I didn't share it.
It is purely self servicing and only contains the stuff I was interested in at the time so, it is not complete my any means. It is focused on a '51 3100.

I don't know how to upload an Excel sheet so I scanned it and this is my best effort.
It may help someone a bit I hope.

Yeah, now that's the idea. Hey Black Bart, when you gonna light
that fire pour you a mug of grog and start on that index??
I'm so disorganized I wouldn't get past section zero, but that
would really be an asset.
I've printed out a copy of your spread sheet Peter, I'll keep it
with my copy of the FAM, thanks.
My "big old wife" was an accountant in years past and works a
spread sheet like a farmer milks a cow. I'll have her take a
look and see what she can come up with.

I stumbled around with this for a long time almost wore the book out going through it , then DUDDD I noticed on front outside cover each part of the AD had a arrow pointed to it , ( CLASSIS INSTRUCTION INDEX ) with section and sheet # s...It has helped me , and I need all the help I can get ....I see every thing I look at , I just don't always look good at what I see ..( now that would make a good country song )

Peter- That's awesome, I think I'm going to copy that and tape inside the cover.

I'm amazed how clear the printing is in these books, considering they are copies from 1953.

Although I do have a couple pages that aren't very good. I may have to ask for them down the road from someone.

I'm still amazed at all the info, especially on all the weatherstripping and seals everywhere. For instance, I never would've thuoght to used seam sealer on the outside edges of the inner/outer cowel panels. I'm sure alot of folks just don't do it. I know there are few particular ones out there that use this book like it's a bible.

ocdc afflicts people who have ocd. It usually occurs mostly in people who are poor typists who try to be clever late at night past their bedtime.
