Ok, I don't know the proper name for it; I read all different sorts of names being used.

I am reassembling my doors, and while I took photos o almost everything....I seemed to have missed this one.

Ok. There is a metal guide that had a felt channel inside it. I am not talking about the one that attaches to the rear of the Vent window assembly. The other one.

Door Glass Channel

So, which way is up? I ordered the felt channel that goes around the window glass, and affixed to the door. However, that 'felt' (seems more like a cloth of steel channel) seems too big to fit inside that.

Does the Guide screw to the aft inside edge of the door?

Diagrams or photos would be great! Please help, as I have time off tomorrow to install it all.

The screws go at the bottom,on the back edge (below latch) of door. The top has a clip that slides into the channel at the top of the door. Kind of awkward if you don't have small hands! Theres a picture of sorts on Sec. 1, Sheet 22 of the 47-54 Factory Assembly Manual. Kind of hard to explain or visualize, simple/ makes sense after you've done it. Hope this helps some. Good Luck! John, I don't have the Factory Assembly Manual. Where can I buy it, or is it available online?

I don't know if its online, but I've seen it in most of the vendors catalogs. Jim Carter should have it, I can't remember where I bought mine.

This is not the same channel design as that changed it in 1951 but it will give you some idea how it installs.

That top screw can be a booger to get out sometime.

Once the guide is in place the channel slips down in it and the end of the channel slips down and behind the "clip" on the guide.

...be sure you have the right channel and guide. I believe that on the earlier years there is a width difference. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Ok. Well, had I realized that the piece with the two screw holes was broken off (on both), it all might have made more sense. Since, Mother Nature decided that today was to be rainy, and without side windows, I needed to get them in. Being in Italy, getting new pieces wasn't an option today. So, I had to do a bit of fabrication.

Mission accomplished. I think.

Windows are pretty hard to roll up and down. I think I know the problem. I ordered the felt that goes in the vent window channel. What arrived was the felt that goes around the top of the door, for window to go up into. Well, I thought, I needed that too. Unfortunately, It is way too wide. Tired of paying double for everything, I thought I'd find what I could here. I found the 'felt' that goes around the top of the door, and it is great. What I found for the vent wing channel is tight. I burned out the heavy felt in the middle which opened it up. But it is still tight.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will 'break in', and not just break. Any tricks for 'greasing the skids'?

WD-40 or Spray Silicone. Roll the glass down and spray the channel. It helps if you have the plastic straw to spray the lower part of the channel. Then roll the window up and down several times. John

shaanxi, this is strictly for the "what its worth dept."

When doing my 52 windows I had some of the same problems. The driver side was really hard to roll up. So much so that I broke it. Standing back looking at the door outline I could see that the door, or window, is not really square. The latch side of the door has a "slant" to it as the window rolled up.
I took both the side windows back to the shop that cut them with the SAME pattern I had given them. Turns out the glass cutters had let the glass pattern slip a little making the glass out of proportion. They cut me two new glasses without charge and wow, what a difference. The driver side is a breeze and the passenger side is OK.
Maybe over the years someone cut new glass to old worn out window channel and now with new stuff its tighten up?

...........just a thought.

Thanks for that input. I hope that isn't the case. I didn't replace or re-seat the window glass. But, of course, the old tracks were non existent, and the windows rolled up and down without effort.

I will look at the 'square-ness' of it this morning, as well as silicone it down, as previously discussed.

I hope it don't break, as being here...it'll be tough to get the glass.

Ok. Day three and now got the 3 rear windows in, side windows in, and now with much silicon spray, they are doing better.

Got the Cab windlace on both sides, and the door weather strip on the right door. I swear I studied everything I could find, and alot of you guys provided alot of info, and I am still hoping that I got the strip on correctly. I took my time, looked at many pics, and looked at it logially. I think I got it on ok.

Tomorrow I'll get the driver's side door done, between rain storms.
