started putting in Dolphin guages on my 53 and discovered they are almost a half inch too small (I know should have measured) But I could have sworn I read in hear about others that did use them. Am I imagining things? I suppose the only option is to get a stainless sleeve but that seems over the top. Desperately looking for suggestions

doc2002002,

I remember something along these lines. If you do a search in this forum using 'dolphin gauges' lots of information pops up....maybe your answer is there.

Here's what you need - Dash Inserts from Dolphin.

Go HERE and click on 54 Chevy Truck 5" Quad. Those will take up the half-inch and still leave a bit of room. They also are the only way to mount the gauges in your dash.

I covered mine with leather so they fit even better:

Hey doc2002002, I am using Dolphin guages in my '48 and they too are to small so I used the original ss trim off of my orig. guages and bent the holding clamps backwards and then used the bracket that came w/ the Dolphin guages and whala.New guages filled the dash with the original trim ss ring. After I bought the guages and the EZ wiring package i was then to poor to pay attention :^)so I did what comes natural for me....make do with what you have. Good luck! Mike

Thanks, Mike!

Wait'll you see it when it comes back from paint -- it's gone now ... being taken apart and then media blasted ... then it'll be painted 2 colors (my design):

Alan, I am ordering my dolphin gauges this week. I like yours but there is a scarcity of Elk around here, except at the local club.
I am using 3 gauges, quad, tach, speedo in a aluminum frame that will be covered by naugahide. We have plenty of those around here :p Will post pics when I get done. Any advice on Dolphin,? where to buy,any problems instaling? I am going with the mechanical speedo. My oil pressure gauge is stil non-electrical. Will it stay that way or do I need a sending unit? will check out the bolt site.

THANKS, Mike!
cool

Hey, gazim -- The naugahide will be easier, too ... the elk is a bit thick and I have to shave it down some but it sure is worth it.

I'm looking forward to seeing your pics!!!

My Dolphin install notes can be viewed Here

The clips they give you for mounting are ridiculous - I don't know what they are made of but you can bend and twist them effortlessly! I made new ones that are stronger.

Other than that ... and the fact that the dash inserts are a bit loose-fitting in the dash ... I have *no* complaints.

I have the adjustable speedo and the quad ... 4 years now and they all work beautifully.

I guess the place to buy is from their site.

I *think* you're okay with the oil pressure gauge ... whatever sending units they gave me all worked fine.
