Jim, can you stick a piece of wire down in the cylinder and have someone turn the engine until you know the piston is at the top..... then, then maybe it will be in view. Take a small pick and scratch around in there and maybe you'll get lucky. This is driving me crazy...lol

I will be inserting a wd40 extension pipe into the spark plug hole of my perfectly fine, recently rebuilt 235 and fire it up on 2-3-2014 unless I hear from the OP that he has already done the same on his engine. I just can't take it any more. smile

Carl: The plastic will flow down into the rings, heat harden, become stronger than steel, lock up the engine and start your garage on fire and possibly the neighbor's outhouse. Just go to a Yoga class and let it go.

Have you noticed the OP has not responded with any update for a week? Think he gave up on us?

Of all possible answers to this question,,Im with Don Stocker!
He has the most logical, and simple solution to the problem.
Just start the truck up and drive it for 5 miles or so. That's it.
Hard to believe theres almost 6 pages of "solutions" to this "major dilemma".
Just cant take it anymore. eek
Good Luck ,, hope you don't have to pull the head.

Yoga? I can barely tie my own shoes. OP has until Sunday.

I hope the ground hog doesn't see his shadow from the fiery inferno of my fresh 235 tomorrow. Hey OP, where have you been? How will you know what to do if you don't follow this post?

There is a Law in Virginia prohibiting working on vehicles on Super Bowl Sunday. It's a religious thing. Better wait.

Good point Bart, I'll wait until OP gets back with us. I really didn't want to steal his thunder anyway.

I chatted with the OP a couple days ago. He is doing as he mentioned. Working on his springs I think it was. He'll come back soon. Its taking a breather!!

Put in most of yesterday on my 'dilemma'. Yesterday I found the TDC of the piston and: probed with a soft wire with and W/O a hook on the end; put a dollop of grease on the wire; vacuumed with my shop vac and a small nozzle; used air pressure with a 3/8 fitting and also used a plyable plastic hose on the end of my air nozzle inserted into the cylinder wall to bring the small spout at least into view. I failed. Seems my remaining options are: try all of the above again; get a borescope; pull the head; start the engine with fingers/toes/eyes crossed. After all this, I'm leaning toward just starting her up and run it for a bit. For now, I'm going to step away from this mess for a bit and install two new rear springs, shackles and spring bolts that are arriving today. I WILL let you know how this does turn out. I don't want to keep anyone in suspense. Again, thanks for all the suggestions you've given. I do appreciate it!!!

Get a powerful light. Look on the floor, on the engine or on the frame/suspension for it. If that thing is 4" long, you would have seen/felt it? Remember, you are retired, like me, and sometimes things happen opposite of what we think happened. grin If it ain't in there, it ain't in there.

I have a 1918 White (not the color) truck that I blew a wd40 spout into. The spark plug hole is offset and not directly over the piston so when I did this very same thing I nearly **** my pants at the thought of pulling it out. My normal fix of a shop vac and wire wasn't working so I used a hot piece of wire. Let the tube kind of melt to it while it was cooling down and pulled it out. Worked just fine.

You might get desperate enough to heat up a coat hanger with a torch and touch it to the spout to glue it together and pull it out.

Good luck.
