The engine I know is not the original engine and is a rebuilt installed around 1982. Any suggestions on this number would be helpful. Below is the pic. flickr Thanks guys paul

To get the year of the engine, you will need the other codes, found at the locations shown in the link I posted above. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 23 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 23 | The "1" that you have in "31" looks like an "i" in the Flicker photo that I have in my second post. Pretty sure it is an "i". Looked at the link under your name and the location that I got this number from is the location labeled "engine serial number". Which number will tell me what this engine is ie 216,235?? Maybe the casting codes??

I'll have to get down and see the casting numbers. From this link it looks like it would be a 235cu and I guess the "i" would be a "1" . That engine code format started in 1957 (57-63).
All Powerglide transmissions were matched up with 235s (high pressure 235s from 1953 onwards; low pressure 235s from 50-52)
The letter I and the number 1 were often interchanged when a code was stamped.
