Any suggestions as to where I might find these parts would be appreciated.

Looks like the going rate is between $85 and $115. I believe the 228, 248, 270 and 302 all take the same pump, makes finding one a lot easier, someone correct me if I'm wrong. In my search for one for my 248 I noticed pulley sizes varied.

I'm still not having much luck. Many web sites list them; however, when you try to order they are unavailable. I spoke to several parts stores and even Cardone, they confirmed the pump has been discontinued. You are correct on the application for several engines; however, they all come up discontinued or no longer available.
Thanks again.

He may have another one. Another option, I called NAPA, they told me they could get my pump rebuilt for me, I never persued that option. Ill continue checking around for you. You should continue watching Ebay for one, I have recently seen the parts to at least rebuild your pump if you can't find a new one.

The pump was recently rebuilt, and when I got it back the pulley was damaged. The damage must have occurred during the shipping process. The company that rebuilt the pump is trying to make it right for me and likely will attempt to have the shipper reimburse them for the damages. They are having an extremely difficult time locating a pulley with a 5/8" groove.
In the meantime, I thought I'd try to locate another pump w/pulley to have as a spare.
I'll let you know how this plays out!
Thanks,

Are rebuild kits available?
I'd like to know either way as I have a 50' 228 motor, and would like to rebuild the water pump (I've just rebuilt the dyno) | | | | | Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 794 Former BMW Rider | | Former BMW Rider Joined: Dec 2013 Posts: 794 | Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I have tried Jim Carter. It is my understanding they no longer stock this item.
I found several companies that will rebuild these water pumps for $115-$175 plus shipping. These companies have slightly different warranties, so be sure to ask about their terms and conditions.
Thanks again,

I'm having a similar problem locating the water pump. I've tried everywhere from Parts Train to Jim Carters. So if I could get any help it would be appreciated!!
Thanks in advance Tony

They are available on Ebay for 35.00. I bought one and followed the shop manual and did the rebuild myself. You will be reusing your old pulley. These are old kits and the gaskets were very dried out, so new pump gaskets will need to be found. Type in "water pump rebuild kit GMC". They fit all pumps on 228 through 302 from 39-62, except maybe some military long shaft pumps.

I just got it back a few days ago and hope to install it this weekend.

It's the last thing I need to get my ol' girl on the road for the first time in 25 plus years. Are there any other water pumps that are compatible?

Search under GMC then Truck then Year. You should find part numbers like these for the pumps 59-8013 or 59-8122 there are others. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 15 | Just for you guys information, I found a place. A little pricey, but they will rebuild the water pump for you if you want or you can just purchase one. I dont know what it costs to just have yours rebuilt but I bought one and it was around 200 shipped. I just have to return my old one.
Google Dan's Classic Auto Parts.

Took the advice of a poster here and sent mine to Hite Parts Exchange, Columbus Ohio. $105 with return shipping. Had it rebuilt, and it was back home and installed within a week.
