They are angled (not straight) and the diameters of the inlet holes are different. The hose-inlet on those vents are directed towards the firewall, as shown in this 1951 installation manual for air flow heater and also shown here for recirculating heater. The smaller diameter vent goes on the passenger side. Brad, Do you know if anyone sells reproduction spring clips (one is used on each inlet vent)? I have not seen those clips reproduced as of yet. Maybe someone will catch the thread that has seen them somewhere?

My truck did not have defroster vents, so I found a pair of cast metal vents via Ebay. But, they did not have the clips so I simply used small machine screws and bolted the vents to the dash (using existing holes). However, I do have one of those clips in my fastener bucket and have no idea where it came from or if I will ever use it during restoration.
