The blue I purchased from Chevs of the 40s was probably too blue, based on your descriptions. I would think there are only a couple of manufacturers of this stuff anymore. Don't all these retailers just get them from the same source? Probably and unfortunately somewhere in China?
The blue I received had a high vinyl content - not rubbery at all.
