I've converted many of the old trucks to 12 volts over the years and never changed out the 6 volt gen unless it was worn out. With a new 12 volt regulator properly polarized the 6 volt gen works fine. I've been told many times it wont work it don't work it can't work but I just say ok and go on about my business.
