You are right about needing to energize the field. I don,t think a 3/4 horse motor is going to generate 20 amps. Why not use a gas engine so it will be portable. If you are going to plug it in any battery charger would work. I,ve got a couple of big H.D. generators out of a Start-all. The cost of shipping would be prohibative.
