I drive my big truck with the rear axle in high all the time, only split gears when carrying heavy loads. Trans is a Clark 205V five speed. Rear axle is Eaton 2 speed.
There is a page here on Stovebolt that demonstrates how to shift a 2 speed axle. I believe there is also a video on YouTube.
