Glad you went to see it.
Rule 1. always check it out in person.
Rule 2. more than 20 mi, trailer it. Why screw it up before you have had time to check all systems, test at short drives and work your way up? and it's somewhat dangerous. tires go flat and all kinds of stuff.
Rule 3. It really does depend on your age. Until I was about 45, I would "drive the sucker home" or pull it with an old rope. After 45, everything under the sun can happen and I will be stuck on a lonely scary road at night with no flashlight and not the right tools.
Fixing big rust, the right way, with all the steps, using many different tools you have to buy, is the least fun, most work, time consuming, dirty, dusty, unthankful process in fixing up old trucks. So don't buy one with big rust as your first project or you will never finish it before death. There are, however, a few nutty people who enjoy body work. I'm afraid there are some here on Stovebolt! smile Don't listen to them, they are weird Zombie, Chainsaw Massacre people from funny shaped states.

Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it. - William Penn
