I'd like to haul it home on a trailer, but that's not an option at this time.

Sounds like you answered your question. Personally I find a trailer, but.... if you can't, they I would travel on the back roads and make an adventure out of it. Is someone going with you? Perhaps you can bring a few tools and such and have them follow you?
Not sure of your mechanical skills? You will need to twist a few wrenches anyway with these trucks. (or as they say in GB... 'wield the spanners')
