I would highly recommend a pressure washer.
The 1926 on my blog was packed with rust and crud. I spent too much time scrapping at it before I got out the pressure washer. That made quick work of it.
You will need to put corks in the push rod holes and the center pass side head bolt hole and the small hole next to it. That is where the rocker oil comes from.
