Got the mount apart last night. Here's what's really in there.
The rivets are about the same diameter as a 5/16" bolt and go down thru a spacer which is 1/2" OD and 0.675" long. It appears that this spacer sets the minimum distance between the plates when the rivets are whacked down. The hole in the plate that the spacer goes thru is about 7/8". The spacer had rubber around it when new.
I did a test assembly of the Chevy Duty replacement rubbers and they are too thick (2x0.410"). This puts the mount about 1/4" too high to align with the bolt holes of the torque tube ball clamp. It also has the 5/16" bolts hitting the bottom of the transmission case (note that the heads of the rivets are pretty thin). Not a very well thought out piece by Chevy Duty and I plan to write them about it.
Using flat rubber will certainly work but doesn't prevent movement from side to side like the original. This would be limited to how hard you clamped the assembly together to keep the rubber from slipping. Probably good enough....until you get some trans oil on it. But on the other hand there are probably many driving around without the mount. PRW
