The 1bbl on my 67 doesn't leak at all. Had to rebuild it though, the accelerator needle was sitting in the float bowl! You should have seen the black smoke when I drove it home the first time.
Anyway, these carbs are a bit small for this, but I used a Holley single pumper 4bbl for a doorstop. I found if you filled teh fuel bowls with lead shot or BB's, it worked really well against high winds.
