Longbox, how old is your wood bed, since the last time you finished it? And is it parked outside, or does it have a place of honor in your garage?
Sadly, I have no room in my garage. So I need to take extra steps to protect my wood's finish. I will also go ahead and wax the upper surface that is exposed to the sun, probably with the same wax that I always use on the paint. Mother's pure carnuba wax. Unless it turns out that a good silicon-based wax would provide a superior UV shield.
I am thinking I won't use oak. I'll either use the pine bed kit I have seen sold, or else go buy my own mahogany boards and use the woodworking shop to get them shaped right. Tempted to do the mahogany. But that would have to have a clear finish for sure, just because of the beauty of that type of wood. Teak would be very good too though.
