Can't go wrong with the stronger return spring.
On my truck the black plastic gas foot pedal sticks on the tip of the metal rod linkage, in the cab, and raises the idle about 400 rpm. Is yours maybe doing the same?
I have a replacement pedal a buddy gave me, just haven't installed it yet.
