Yeah the spindles turn in same direction when the the motor is engaged. The passenger side turns toward the outside of the vehicle but the driver's side also turns the same direction i.e. the center of the vehicle. I didn't connect the driver's side transmission arm to the motor, all I can see is that it is connected to the top of the wiper transmission. Hey red58, I didn't know the retainers were available. The passenger side link was disconnected and missing the bushing. I made a bushing out of steel rod and used a fender washer (3/16" id) and a c-clip to hold it all together. Who sells the retainers?
